Part 1: Small Business Holiday Shopping Guide

By: Christine Hopwood

This holiday season, we want to bring you a guide that highlights the small brands that we’ve come to know and love, to help you shop tiny when picking out the perfect gifts for your loved ones (or yourself). Along with our friends and family, we’ve come together to pull our favorite go-to brands that we think everyone should know about, as well as a couple bonus ones we have found along the way. We’ve poured our hearts into this and we hope to have brought something for everyone from small businesses, to artists, podcasts and places to donate.

// Outdoor Gear

Outdoor Element

Our relationship with the lovely folks at Outdoor Element goes way back to the earliest days of Revel Gear. Masters of the multi-tool and survival gear that is so well designed that only an engineer could have dreamt it up. (Enter Founder & Engineer, Mike Mojica.) We’ve watched them grind and grow through the years, and cannot recommend their gear enough! Each product they make is guaranteed to impress, but our favorite, and one we truly do use every single day, is the Firebiner. @outdoor.element

Kokopelli Pack Rafts

Kokopelli Pack rafts (we love their rafts), owned by Kelley, has something for every stage of your pack rafting journey, if you are a beginner just starting out or a seasoned pro with experience under your belt. You can choose from The Lake, Whitewater and adventure series depending on which suits you best. You can read more about Kokopelli in their feature article on our Adventure Log here. @kokopelli

Kula Cloth

We can’t praise Anastasia and Kula Cloth enough. If you are an avid outdoor pee-er, do yourself a favor and head on over to pay them a visit. We love their products, love the brand, love their new neck gaiter with holes for braids to poke through! The entertaining Kula Diaries are a hit too. Keep an eye out for an upcoming collab. @kulacloth

Epic Water Filters

After seeing first hand the overwhelming build up of plastic bottles in water ways and our natural environments, Ash and Joel brought Epic Water Filters to life. We love their products, especially the portable water bottle with a filter. This is a must for all camping, traveling, and adventures of any kind. Smart to have on hand for emergencies too! They even have a collab bottle with Gretchen. @epicwaterfilters

Hydrascape Stickers

Gretchen’s designs really blow us away! Dress up your gear with these breathtaking vinyl scenery stickers made for any lover of the outdoors, while encouraging the long-term use of reusable water bottles by glamming them up. Hydrascape also supports non profits and environmental organizations across the country. @hydrascapestickers

Eclipse Glove

Elise makes UV sun protective clothing and is one of Tez’s sponsors for the United World Challenge, helping to keep him safe while out on the water. @eclipseglove

Autumn is a Cosmetic Chemist and after realizing how toxic chemicals can affect our fragile aquatic ecosystems, came up with the idea to create a reef safe sunscreen and other safe products used directly on our bodies such as shampoos, conditioners and hand sanitizers. Stream2Sea is another sponsor of the United World Challenge, supporting the research of ocean plastics. @stream2sea

Luno Life

The ultimate resource for building out your cozy car camping/van life/overlanding gear needs! You can find your freedom to have comfort on wheels with everything here from mattresses to window screens. They always support us and have great products. Take a look at their interesting blog article with some great camping resources here.

// Pet Gear

Tails On The Trails Dog Tags

Our most loyal companions can’t be left out this holiday season. Christine is based in Ontario and hand stamps metal pet tags, made with love. Choose your fonts and stamps, and view past designs for inspiration here to come up with your very own custom tag for the most important members of the family – the four-legged ones. Inspired by the outdoors and the love of her rescue dog Jack.

A tree is planted for each dog bed purchased as well. You can read a full run-down on our Adventure Log article dedicated solely to them here @timberdogbeds

Tiny Horse Mercantile

Taylor is paving the way for dog owners and dog walkers alike, to manage multiple dogs at once with her one of a kind multi-dog system. @walkmultipledogs

Started by the women of the Outdoor Element family (most of which are under 18),  these thoughtfully engineered, recycled plastic leashes are a wonderful mix of both environmentally friendly and awesome gear for being out with your pups. These girls have a bright future ahead, growing up as role models for how to treat our planet (and pets) right. Their mama is raising them right! @letswalkdog
